Varilight has made switches, sockets and dimmers in Britain since 1972. It started when Dr Tony Doyle turned a drill speed controller into a light dimmer with the help of his wife, Carole. Everything is still designed and manufactured in West Sussex, and there are dozens of finishes to choose from: brushed brass, antique bronze, polished chrome and more. The aim is that light switches look as considered as the rest of the room. The dimmers are made for modern LED bulbs, with no buzzing and no flicker.
