How this shop works

AT HESTIA is a shop that does not sell anything. We find furniture, write about it, and send you to the retailer to buy it. That one fact decides most of what follows: your purchase is with them, and what we are responsible for is this website.

Using this site means you accept what is on this page. If you do not, please do not use it. Nothing here affects your legal rights as a consumer.

We do not sell you anything

Every piece on this site is sold by somebody else. Press the shop button and you leave for the retailer, and everything from that point is theirs: the price you pay, the order, the payment, delivery, assembly, returns, refunds, guarantees and any complaint about the product itself.

Your contract is with the retailer, under their terms, and we are not a party to it. We take no payments and hold no card details. There is no basket on this site and there is nothing to check out, which is not an oversight: it is what the shop is.

It also means your cancellation and return rights are the retailer’s, and they are the people to exercise them with. If a retailer will not put something right, tell us anyway. We chose them, and we would rather know.

Prices, stock and descriptions

A price on this site is one we read from the retailer’s own page and stored. We re-check them, and we show you where the number came from, but a price can change between our check and your click. The retailer’s price at the till is the price you pay, and if the two disagree, theirs is right and ours is out of date.

The same goes for stock and lead times. Much of this catalogue is made to order, so “available” here means the retailer was taking orders when we last looked.

Descriptions, dimensions and materials are taken from the retailer or written by us from what they published. We take care with them and we will correct anything you tell us is wrong, but check the measurements on the retailer’s page before you buy. A centimetre matters more to you than to us.

How we make money

AT HESTIA earns a commission when you buy through our links. It never changes the price you pay. We add no markup.

In practice: the shop button carries a tracking link, the retailer pays us a share if you buy, and your price is the same as it would be if you had typed their address yourself. We are not paid to place a piece here and nobody buys their way onto this site. Anything that ever is paid for will say so on the page.

Your account

You do not need an account to use the shop. If you make one, keep your password to yourself, give us an email address you can actually read, and tell us if you think somebody else is using it.

We do not delete accounts for going quiet. Yours stays until you ask us to remove it.

We can close an account that is being used to abuse the site, other people or us. That is the only reason we would, and we would tell you why. You can delete yours at any time by emailing hello@athestia.com. What we hold and for how long is in the privacy notice.

Things you send us

You can suggest a piece, or write in as a brand, at /suggest. Please send only things you are happy for us to read and act on, and nothing confidential.

We may add a piece you send us, and we are grateful when you do. We do not pay finder’s fees, and we will not publish your name or your note without asking you first.

Using the site fairly

Please do not:

• copy the catalogue, our written descriptions or our edit, in bulk or by machine, to publish somewhere else;
• scrape the site, or hit it hard enough automatically to slow it down for other people;
• try to reach the admin, other people’s accounts, or anything not meant for you;
• upload or send anything unlawful, or anyone else’s personal information.

Reading the site, saving pieces, sending a link to a friend and quoting us with a credit are all fine and none of them need permission.

Photographs and words

The product photographs belong to the retailers and brands who made them, and appear here to show you the piece we are linking to. If you own an image and would rather we did not use it, email hello@athestia.com and we will take it down.

The writing, the edit, the name and the look of this site are ours. Quote a line with a link and we are pleased. Lift the lot and we are not.

What we are responsible for

We are responsible for this website: for running it honestly, describing pieces as accurately as we can, and being straight about how we are paid.

We are not responsible for:

• the product itself, or anything the retailer does or fails to do;
• a price or a stock line that changed after we last checked;
• another website we link to, including its content and its own terms;
• the site being unavailable, which it sometimes will be.

Nothing here limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations stand whatever this page says, and this page does not try to sign them away.

Complaints

Email hello@athestia.com. One person reads that inbox and you will hear back within five working days.

A complaint about a product, a delivery or a refund has to go to the retailer, because they are the ones you bought from. Send it to us as well if you like. It tells us something about who we are recommending.

Changes to this page

We will update this page as the shop changes, and the date at the top will change with it. Carrying on using the site after that means the new version applies. If a change matters to people with accounts, we will email them rather than hope they notice.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England & Wales, and the courts there can hear any dispute. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the UK, you keep the right to bring a claim in your own courts.
