Why we love it

This is a proper collaboration between a decorative artist and furniture maker, with botanical studies of native wildflowers handpainted onto parchment and applied to a solid mahogany frame using traditional decoupage. It's inspired by Carl Linnaeus's own bedroom walls, which feels like owning a piece of natural history. Hang it in a bedroom, hallway or study where you'll actually look at it and notice the detail in the forget-me-nots and harebells.

Description

Decorative artist Tess Newall and furniture maker Alfred Newall introduce Botanica Mirror, a celebration of the crafts integral to their work and the landscape which surrounds their East Sussex workshops. Botanical studies of native wildflowers have been handpainted onto individual sheets of parchment paper, inspired by the bedroom walls of 18th century Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus in Hammarby, Sweden. The piece includes forget-me-not, harebell, clover, daisy, red campion and milkwort. The mirror surround is solid mahogany, and the beading which frames the artworks is inspired by Arts and Crafts joinery. The artworks are printed onto non-woven paper using high quality pigment inks. The studies have been applied to the handcrafted mahogany frame using a traditional decoupage technique. The mirror will be prepared for hanging both Portrait and Landscape. Please note that this piece will be made to order with a lead time of 12-14 weeks.
